Eho Maki (Good Luck Sushi Roll)
Next week, February 3rd, is SETSUBUN, the day before the first spring day in lunar calendar.
Please come and enjoy our Ehou Maki! ($8 per roll)
On SETSUBUN, one of the things we do is bean throwing. In Japan, beans are believed to have the power to get rid of bad luck. As we throw beans, we shout “Oni wa soto, Fuku wa Uchi” which means “Devils, go out! Good luck, come in!” After the bean throwing, we eat the same number of beans as our age. Finally, we eat rolled sushi called “Ehou Maki.” We face the direction of good luck, make a wish, and eat the sushi roll! The lucky direction this year is southwest.
